Frequently asked questions

We get asked A LOT of questions and frequently too. Here is a list of some of the more common questions and the best possible answer we have. If you have any questions and do not see them here, feel free to fill out a request for a quote and add your question in the comment field.

How much is lawn care?

We charge our clients what it takes to do a quality job. We are not the cheapest Lawn Care Company in town, but we are the BEST!

How often do you come?

We have services that require weekly visits such as mowing. Others that require bi-weekly or monthly visits, such as fertilizer and weed control, and even services done annually such as aeration and overseeding. Frequency is based on your needs and wants.

Is your pest control safe for pets?

We offer natural and organic products that are safe for animals and humans too! These products are not synthetic and, once applied, they are not harmful.

How do I get started?

See that “REQUEST A QUOTE” button? Give it a click and fill out the form provided! Someone will reach out to you soon and collect the remaining information needed to see if we can help you in any way.

What area do you service?

Glens Falls, Queensbury, Lake George, Warrensburg, South Glens Falls, Saratoga Springs, Wilton, Gansevoort, Ballston Spa, Ballston Lake, Malta, Clifton Park, Halfmoon, Scotia, Glenville, Burnt Hills, Cohoes, Mechanicville, Rensselaer, Schenectady, Colonie, Latham, Troy and Albany (and nearby).

Do you offer installation services?

Unfortunately, no. We do not offer installation of any landscape structure or mechanical service such as irrigation, patios, retaining walls or even new lawns.

Do you lay sod or hydroseed?

We do not. For us to be the best at maintenance, we have to focus on maintenance only. We do not apply sod or hydroseed.

What type of fertilizer do you use?

Our main source of nitrogen comes from a “Poly Coated” (slow release) Urea. This gives an extended release of nutrients in a pellet. Over 90 days, the fertilizer breaks down and offers plenty of nutrients to last between applications.

Will your fertilizer green my lawn instantly?

The simple answer is “NO.” Our products are packed with micronutrients that help with a quick “Green Up” over the first seven days of application. However, our slow-release products are specifically designed to give plants the nutrients needed to grow over a 90-day period. Quicker is NOT better!

How long does it take to improve the appearance of my lawn?

Transforming your weedy jungle into a well-manicured lawn is a slow process. This could take a couple of years to achieve top results. Our plans work much like an exercise program. How far you let it go will depict how long it takes to get your lawn back in good health. Slow and steady wins this race. You don’t see big results after one or two trips to the gym. Just like one or two applications is not a magic wand; it takes consistency and time to reach your goal.

Do you have organic fertilizer options?

Of course! Organic is a bit more expensive, but man does it work. With that said, there are no “selective” organic weed-control products, so we do not have a way to organically kill weeds growing in your lawn, only preventives. However, we do have “natural” products to achieve this.

Do you bag your lawn clippings?

No way, Jose! Bagging clipping pulls roughly 33 percent of nutrients from the plant/soil. If it is going to leave behind a mess, we will bag and compost clippings, but only if you request it.

Is your company environmentally friendly?

As often as we can be! We are dedicated to making the most environmentally safe decisions we can. We are not perfect but we care sooooo much about our planet. We are always improving processes and product lines to help aid in safe and healthy care of your property.

Do you cut down trees?

We are not a tree-removal service but we are happy to give you the name of a local company that can help you.

Do you offer snow removal services?

Yes! We offer commercial snow removal in the Glens Falls area. However, we do not offer residential snow removal.

What type of pest control do you offer?

We are licensed to eradicate all forms of lawn insects outside your home, including mosquitos, ticks, fleas, mites, ants, chinch bugs, earwigs and more! We are not licensed to handle furry critters like skunks, groundhogs or opossums. We also do not exterminate bees, wasps or hornets.

What makes you better than any other lawn company?

Other than our dedication to your satisfaction, our customer service is out of this world! We care about you and your lawn. We always want you to know that. When you call, we answer. If we cannot answer, we call back!

Why should I make the switch to The Lawn Care Company?

That’s easy! We have your best interest in mind from beginning to end. Of course, we cannot please everyone or even make everyone happy, but we really, really wish we could. We care more than anyone out there! Even if you find a service that is close to as good as we are, or that has lower prices, we are the type of company that resolves our mistakes quickly and with respect to your feelings and we are always looking for ways to improve!

Can I sign up any time?

The short answer is “Yes,” but it is always best to get on our schedule as early in the season as possible or even before! We book up fast and can only grow at a certain speed to guarantee our technicians and applicators are trained well enough to provide the quality of service you expect.

Why should I do a soil test?

A soil sample can give us the clues behind what your lawn  needs. Even if your lawn is not suffering, its nutrient levels might indicate a problem that could soon get worse. Often, when we collect a sample and send it out for a test, we can determine what adjustments we can make or if anything else needs to be done to get your lawn in a better state.

Should I aerate in spring or fall?

Either works, but we recommend the fall unless you have extremely compact soil, in which case sooner is better. If you get a spring aeration, it is a great idea to also get a fall aeration with or without an overseeding. One service is often not enough for extreme conditions and once a year in the fall is plenty as regular maintenance to promote the best possible outcome.

Are your mascots chipmunks or beavers?

Hey now! Those are groundhogs, also known as woodchucks. They do not like to be compared to other such rodents but we forgive you this one time! Their names are Thatch and Thatch Jr. and they are protectors of your lawn and landscape — even if all groundhogs are not!

Why do you love lawn care so much?

Honestly, it’s not just the lawns that do it for us; it’s the people too. Granted we all got in this industry because managing turf and studying biology is fun and takes skill, but we choose to work with the best of people. We really love our clients and care deeply about their hard work and achievements, including their homes and properties. We enjoy the work but we find gratitude in the end result — YOUR HAPPINESS!
